About two years ago when we moved into what is now the “Old Shop” we inherited a few “TREASURES.” Well, I call them treasures, My partner Don likes to refer to at it as “more crap I have to store.” One of the items was this old upright piano. It moved around the shop for almost a year, always seeming to be in the way. Then came the day we moved to the new bigger shop. The piano destined to be abandoned once again. Don, being the absolute trooper that he is, moved it to the new space and stored it for me. Going only on the faith that “one day i will turn it into something cool”
Many ideas where floated around, the primary one was “A funky cool DJ Booth” for some new hip club yet to be opened. Time went by with no action on the piano, everyday looking at it and trying to pretend it’s not a giant pink elephant. Then one day it comes to us after talking with one of our best clients. What if we turn it into a wet bar?? We found a soon to be good home for it at the Maydestone Apartments, I came up with a simple yet innovative design that would surely be unique, but it was still lacking something…. What to do?? Then it came to me. I need to treat this like the killer piece of art it is, I know just the way to do it.
I called my buddy and amazing artists Micah Crandall-Bear and asked him to look at it. To my great delight he was all about my idea “Let’s paint this thing like it was a canvas”, mashing up his great acrylic work with our ability to turn other wise trash into treasures.
I am so excited about this project and will be blogging about the entire process. Look forward to seeing pictures of the entire process as well as final installation pictures!
Oh and Happy 4th of July!

Can’t wait to see the finished work! Sounds like a great artistic collaboration amongst great minds.
What about a Bar furniture .You can make a glass keyboard cover to put bottles and glasses on it whenever you want to make “Mojitos”
.You might also use LED recessed lighting
inside that would give a very eye catching touch .I’m sure you can find a way to recycle the interior of this Piano to store bottles in a cool place
Cannot wait to see what i morphs into… however, I think it is a beautiful piece as it is!
Well, maybe cleaned up some! Jen
I have a Pease Upright Grand I bought ten years ago. Had it tuned as best it could be and it had some dead keys. The tuner said it was costly to have the keys replaced, I could get a good used piano for what it’d cost to make this one playable. I can’t play anyhow. I just loved the furniture and thought even at that time I’d make it into a wet bar if nothing else! We are about to move and I have not converted the piece. So I took a chance that someone else may have had this nutty idea and googled
“convert upright piano in to wet bar” and there you were. DID YOU DO IT? Any photos ready to post. I am not on face book but am really interesed to see results. I have time before we move and will hopefully be inspired by your project to do mine! I don’t want to “artsy” it up, to me the furniture is really beautiful and with more cleaning and polishing it could be an outstanding bar.
