I’ve been flirting with mashing up my rough acrylic painting with furniture for some time now. I decided to try it out on an easy affordable coffee table design. The table top is made primarily out of reclaimed lumber (actually house siding) The base is made from scrap plywood we had at the shop. Pop Culture art hand painted by me, Steve Hamm. We are really excited about mixing Street art with reclaimed furniture. These two pieces will be for sale and on display at local Sacramento Boutique called Good Stock. Look forward to many new designs, as well as one-off hand painted creations coming from us in the near future.

The concert hall at the Syndey Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 11,000 times in 2011. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 4 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

Last saturday night we unveiled a new collection called “Found Objects”. Everything in this grouping was either 2nd hand or literally found material. Doing our best here at Urban to show you what can be done with a little creativity and good design. Upscale Upcycling!

The benches are made from an old wood beam I found buried behind some trash cans at a liquor store near our shop. The Tables are made from a couple of old concrete slabs I had, and the legs from angle iron we found at the Fox & Goose demo site. The stools are constructed from old paneling also from the Fox & Goose. The cushion seats are covered in old coffee bean bags courtesy of Old Soul Coffee Company. Do work…

Literally 2 years ago I’m sharing a cup of coffee with good friend Jake Favour from Romp Creative and we are talking about coffee tables. That’s the thing about Jake, you don’t sit and discuss the weather or sports.. you talk design. Jake loves design, He loves modernism. The dude really has a passion for it. Plus he has amazing taste in all things cool. Check out his blog some time House of Ruffians. So anyways as we are talking, Jake is doodling on this napkin and comes up with this really cool coffee table, simple, modern and yet rustic. I looked and him and said, hey man, can I build that? Jake was all too happy to give me the napkin and said “sure, just make sure I get credit”

Wel, 2 years later I finally built the table for one of Kerrie Kelley’s clients. I made a few minor changes (mostly to the legs and overall finish) those were done to fit the clients needs. But all in all this is Jake’s table, and a damn fine one it is at that. Thank you Jake, killer work brother.
